Sure! I'll let him know you may be interested. I'm not exactly sure of all the details yet myself but I know it'll need all the help it can get. :)

I'll leave you a note when I know more.

Another very worthy and underfunded project you may want to check into is the Freenet Project (http://freenetproject.org/).

Good of you to support these things. It's really strange I should happen upon it today though since a friend of mine asked me today if I wanted to join in his project of his having a network of bloggers that would have a similar goal but be donating all the money made to a certain cause.

Cheers!

Zend Studio is definitely worth the money. And of course, buying some Firefox merch, such as a nice t-shirt, will support the project and still give you something in return. I have my nice Firefox shirt, as well as a mozilla shirt. I also have a google laptop bag ;)

But indeed, there are such projects as Aqua Data Studio that offer their software free for private use, but also offer commercial licenses. and as said, Zend Studio is worth the money big time if you work on PHP.

Yes totally agree. I was listing some of the opensource programs that is on my desktop.

On top of donating to opensource projects, I also thinking of buying some of the worthy applications to support those that are running a business.

Now that I'm running my own business I know how hard it is to make a living and every support counts. Especially when it is worthy.

I truely think that you should focus on donating to small projects. though OpenOffice and Firefox are definitely worthy candidates, there is already a lot of money being funneled their way. I think getting a donation would be much more rewarding and also a big motivation boost for a small developer or group of developers than for these big projects.

it's a good idea. back when I was part of the phpBB group and I got the occasional payment from there, I also used to donate part of that payment to an open source project. I don't remember anymore which projects I supported though.
