I was poking around as usual and found Google Code Project Hosting.
The first impression is that the service sounds very similar to the well known SourceForge service.
It appears that Google’s Project Hosting does not want to conflict with projects on Sourceforge. If you sign up for a project name that already exist in Sourceforge, Google Code will first send an email to the Sourceforge owner to confirm whether they allow the name to be used.
The service is simple and provides an issue tracking function and a svn (subversion) repository.
You will need a Google Account to sign up.
It will be interesting to see how things works out for this.
Release early, release often.
