Charge your gadget anywhere, solarly

Saw this on TV today and I think it’s a great idea. Naturally I did a search and found it.

Solar vest

Can you figure it out?

Very simply the vest has some solar panels on the back. As you walk around, they charge your gadgets - mobile phone, ipod, digital camera, PDA.

Very handy for the road warrior. Wonder if this works well. Would be great if it charges my notebook as well.

Another RAM saving application snapped up

2 days ago I mentioned about how web applications like GMail, 30Boxes, Meebo can save some RAM on the computer and are replacing desktop applications.

Of course saving RAM is not the only motivation for web application. No install required and up-to-date software are very attractive factors.

WritelyWritely is a web word processor like Word. And guess what?

It is the latest in the line of web applications acquired by Google.

What is Google thinking? Many people have their guesses. Predictions of Google dominating the desktop had been floating around for a long time.
No, not by creating an operating system. But by domainting the web. Web applications that is.

Now let see who Google acquire for the web-based spreadsheet and presentation application.

Oh, have you heard? They are already rumoured to be creating a calendar application.

Save some RAM with Web applications

What does GMail, 30Boxes, Meebo has in common?

Together they save me more than 68Mb of RAM (and also diskspace) by replacing ThunderBird, SunBird and Gaim.

Task Manager showing gaim, thunderbird, sunbird

Web applications had moved beyond the yester-year hype of browser based thin-client and became practical usable solutions.

A major drawback is the need to be online in order to use the applications. I want to read my email and update my calendar anytime.

RAM saving alone is not the deciding factor.
However with internet access at home and at work, together with wi-fi everywhere, the decision is getting clearer.

Blogger outsourcing

I had been thinking about this for a while.

What would bloggers like to outsource? Especially fulltime bloggers. I know I like to get things like graphic design, template maintenance, blog application update outsourced.

The idea is not exactly new. Freelancers exists way before the Internet made international freelancing possible.

Freelance site like elance, guru.com brings together buyers and sellers of services. A way for blogger to outsource is to use these services.

Finding the right people with the right skill set is a big problem. Some either know this but not that, Another know that but not this.

I had used freelancers from such site on many occassions but so far I have met non that I would recommend without second thought.

Two years in China had gained me some experience in getting people and getting work done here. I had been toying with the idea of build my own team of people to do my online work. I did similar thing a year back but that did not turn out well. Now I believe I’m in a better position to try again.

I getting some ground work done at the moment to take care of my needs. When I’m ready I might just offer this as a service.

Will anyone be interested in this?

What service would you like to see?
